This year, we've decided to create a new page: the "news" page. We'll continue
to update it with the latest happenings with Vertigomtb and cycling in general,
for example, have you heard that
Lance Armstrong
is dating Cheryl Crow?

* THE SIENA-FLORENCE MTB TOUR INAUGURATED!

After
months of research in order to find just the right trails, we ran our new
3-day tour from Siena to Florence at the end of March.
When our mountain biking friends from
Momo
bike club in southern Switzerland decided they wanted to really see
the Chianti, we obliged by taking them on an
awesome
bike ride.
The weather was kind to us and fortunately it didn't rain (in March, rain
is a strong possibility).

We
all agree that the
beauty of this tour lies
in the bringing together of a variety of elements, such as:
- the gradual ups and downs along the famous "white roads"--wide
trails
that criss-cross the soft Sienese hills,
- the sense of
adventure that one experiences
on the narrow trails that wind their way through the woods surrounding Florence,
- the
relaxing evenings spent around the dinner
table and in front of an open fire, with a
glass of
Chianti in hand, sharing impressions and our personal discoveries
and adventures of the day,
- the
beautiful scenery and rich colors of
the countryside that have made Tuscany famous,
- the moments of
cultural and historical discovery
that one experiences on tour, thanks in part to the
expert
Vertigo Mtb guides,
- watching the tandem gracefully
descend the stairs
from the Piazzale Michelangelo to Florence!
* THE NEW JERSEY IS HERE!
We've re-designed our
Vertigo Mtb bike jersey.
Though the road-style jersey was a big hit last year, we've changed it to
a mountain-bike style design, a little
roomier and
more comfortable. Check it out:

* BIKE TOUR OF FLORENCE, AND NOT ONLY...
Now you can enjoy Florence AND the nearby hills on a mountain bike! We've
already taken a few groups on this
combination city
and countryside tour.
Biking through the old city center of Florence,
we will see the traces of its long and rich past, with its beginnings as
a
Roman town through its artistic heyday during
the
Renaissance.
We'll take time to enjoy some of the most important monuments and piazzas,
like the
Piazza della Signoria and also visit
some of the lesser-known sites, such as Andrea del Sarto's frescoes in the
Chiostro dello Scalzo.
Our route then takes us up above Florence, to the
Piazzale
Michelangelo and the stunning romanesque church,
San
Miniato al Monte.
Then, following a small road behind the church, we are suddenly in the country,
riding through the
pine forest of San Miniato
and then along the narrow roads that wind through the hills, past
grand
villas,
cypress trees and small, country
churches.
Descending back into town, the
views of Florence
and the surrounding mountains are unforgettable.
We'll then head to the famous
Cascine park,
former hunting grounds of the
Medici family
and now a favorite place to while away a sunny afternoon, with its
shady
lanes, horse race track, amphitheatre and amusement park.
